2019 marks an incredible milestone for our community as it is Mary Rutan Hospital’s 100th year of service! As one of a select few health care facilities in Ohio that have maintained its independent, stand-alone community hospital status, Mary Rutan offers Logan County both top level local healthcare and access to a growing partner network. Overtime this network has expanded to include affiliation agreements with The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center, Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the West Central Ohio Healthcare Alliance. Mary Rutan Hospital came into existence as a gift of Rebecca R. Williams in 1916. Mrs. Williams’ will specified that the property, deeded to the city of Bellefontaine, was to be used for a hospital, and the hospital to be named in memory of her mother, Mary Rutan. Construction began, and in 1919 the doors opened to this 25-bed, two floor hospital. Multiple expansions have occurred in the hospital’s 100-year history, each time increasing services offered to the community. Mary Rutan restructured their corporate model twice. Once in 1978, where it became a not-for-profit corporation and again in 1984, where the Mary Rutan Health Association was formed. It then became the holding corporation for Mary Rutan Hospital and two other entities; Mary Rutan Foundation and Logan View, LLC. Today, Mary Rutan Hospital is a leading not-for-profit health care organization with a comprehensive and integrated system of inpatient, outpatient and community services connected to meet the health and wellness needs of all members of the community. The most recent opening of the Mary Rutan Health Center brings their total offsite locations to thirteen in a four-county region that includes Logan, Champaign, Hardin and Shelby. Together, Mary Rutan Hospital team members deliver award-winning services that are recognized by patients and their families, as well as independent organizations that rank the hospital among the best. “Mary Rutan Hospital is made up of many complex parts,” said President/CEO Mandy Goble, “Each part is unique and necessary to the whole. We are the community’s health team.
