Mark Boyer, Founder and General Manager of Shine FM began his journey to start Shine FM in December 2009 by meeting with a group of pastors in Rushsylvania. After an encouraging meeting, he continued to share his vision with the community and raise the funds needed to get the station on the air. In May 2012, he launched two stations in West Central Ohio serving Champaign, Hardin, Logan and Union Counties. They simulcast their broadcast on 88.5 FM near Kenton and 88.9 FM near Zanesfield. Shine FM is “two signals, one station.” Shine FM is a broadcast ministry of Soaring Eagle Promotions, a 501(c3) non-profit organization. They are a community-supported station, meaning they are sustained by the generous financial support of families, businesses and churches. Their focus is to provide their listeners spiritual encouragement, build relationships in the community and see lives transformed by the Gospel message. “Since the beginning, God has commanded us to share the vision, share the need, and leave the results to Him,” said Mr. Boyer. “Most Christian non-profit stations do annual, week long on-air fundraisers to meet their budgets. We do not do this. We use other methods to communicate our need to our listeners. God continues to be faithful to meet our needs.” The station is now seven years old and each year they continue to see growth in the areas of listenership, financial contributions, audience interaction and concert attendance. In 2017 they were able to strengthen the wattage of their 88.5 signal, which gives a stronger signal in the current coverage area and allows them to reach into more communities. Shine FM is located across from Southview Park in Bellefontaine. “We take pride in being an active member of our community,” said Mr. Boyer. We are out and about as much as possible to support events by helping to draw people and create an inviting atmosphere with our music. We have been able to establish three annual events in Logan County: our anniversary Celebration in May, Rock the Lake in August and a concert at the West Liberty Labor Day Festival in September.” Rock the Lake and the concert at the West Liberty Labor Day Festival draw thousands of people into the county every year and have become two of the most well attended events in the county. Being new to the area, joining the Logan County Chamber has opened the door to meet members of the business community. One of their priorities is to develop partnerships within the community. “Being a part of the Chamber has allowed us to connect with area leaders and build partnerships that have contributed to our success,” said Mr. Boyer. “It has helped us be a part of the whole community, not just the faith community.” Shine FM can be followed on Facebook (facebook/shinefmohio), Twitter (@shinefmohio), Instagram (@shinefmohio), SnapChat (@shinefmohio) or you can visit their website at www.shinefmohio.com.
