From a push mower and a few neighborhood lawns to 36 years of growing, serving, and giving back — Logan Lawn & Landscaping is proof that big dreams can start small.

When most sixth graders are thinking about recess, sports, and what’s for dinner, Jacob Vitt was thinking about lawns. At just 11 years old, Jacob started mowing a handful of neighborhood lawns with a push mower. What began as a simple after-school venture quickly became something much bigger, thanks to hard work, encouragement from family and neighbors, and a genuine love for working outdoors.

Thirty-six years later, that little mowing business has grown into Logan Lawn & Landscaping, a full-service lawn and landscaping company serving customers throughout the region — while staying

firmly rooted in the community Jacob has always called home.

Born and raised in Logan County, Jacob says there was never much question about where he wanted to build his business. “This is my home and I am passionate about taking care of my community and the people living here,” he says.

That philosophy is evident in the company’s work. Logan Lawn & Landscaping offers an impressive range of services, including full-service mowing, mulching, trimming, fertilization and weed treatment, planting, landscape rejuvenation, landscape lighting, ornamental tree trimming, sod installation, seeding and aeration, decorative stone, landscaping walls, hardscaping, irrigation, seasonal cleanups, snow removal, and more. One of the most rewarding parts of the business for Jacob is serving elderly customers.

Many of these clients spent decades caring for their own homes and properties but have reached a point where the physical demands of lawn care and landscaping have become difficult. Logan Lawn & Landscaping provides more than a well-manicured lawn; the team provides a helping hand and peace of mind.

For Jacob, seeing the comfort and happiness that brings his customers makes the work especially meaningful.

Liberty flowers and civic signs, while also supporting the community through sponsorships of youth sports teams, contributions to 4-H and county fair projects, and support for student-centered events at West Liberty-Salem schools.

And now, after a year as a Logan County Chamber member, Jacob is excited to deepen those community connections.

Jacob’s story is a great reminder that entrepreneurship doesn’t always begin with a business plan, a warehouse, or the latest equipment. Sometimes, it starts with a push mower and the willingness to work.
His advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is simple: don’t be afraid to start small.

You don’t need top-of-the-line equipment right away, he says. Instead, focus on doing your best with the resources you have, avoid putting yourself in a financial hole, and be patient as you grow. “When you consistently invest your time and energy into serving people well, the opportunities — and the upgraded equipment — will follow naturally.”

That mindset has served Logan Lawn & Landscaping well for 36 years.

And if you ask Jacob what he’s looking forward to as the business heads into 2026, his answer is refreshingly simple: “I’m excited for how GREEN and thick the grass is — in August!”
