Their passion paid off. By 1905, the library moved into a building funded by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, tying Logan County to the historic Carnegie library movement that helped shape public libraries across the United States. From those humble beginnings, the library grew steadily – adding branches, launching bookmobiles, and expanding services to meet the needs of a changing community. Today, it stands as a testament to what can happen when a community invests in itself.
You can also find libraries in our rural communities, including DeGraff, Lakeview, Rushsylvania, West Liberty and West Mansfield. The library is more than books. In fact, there are services for every stage of life. Yes, you can still check out a great novel – but that’s just the beginning. Logan County Libraries offers a wide range of services designed to educate and empower:
From “Books on Tape” in the 1980s to today’s digital platforms like Libby and Hoopla, the library has consistently stayed ahead of the curve. For a complete list of their services – stop in to a local branch, give them a call at (937) 599-4189 or check out their website. The past few years have tested the library system – but also highlighted its strength. From a devastating flood at Knowlton Library in 2022 to a tornado that destroyed the Lakeview Branch in 2024, Logan County Libraries has faced adversity head-on. Each time, the response has been the same: rebuild, reimagine, and reopen – stronger than before. Recent updates show just how committed the library is to evolving with its patrons’ needs. The Knowlton Library renovation and reopening in 2024 after their 2022 Christmas Day flood brought refreshed spaces, modern technology, and expanded community areas. Another major change? Going fine-free in 2024, removing overdue fines on many materials to ensure access isn’t limited by financial barriers. Add in tech tutoring and expanded digital services, and it’s clear the library is focused on making learning accessible to everyone. Over the years, Logan County Libraries has earned recognition for its creativity and service, including a 1st Place Award for outstanding programming by the Ohio Library Council Northwest Chapter Conference, a 2025 Carnegie Grant honoring its historic legacy and multiple other grants supporting literacy, technology, and community outreach. The library has also been an early adopter of digital innovations, from eBooks to mobile apps, ensuring patrons always have modern tools at their fingertips. What truly sets Logan County Libraries apart is its impact. This isn’t just a place to borrow materials – it’s where children discover a love of reading, families learn and grow together, and residents connect, collaborate, and create. Patrons don’t just use the library - they help shape it. That sense of shared ownership is part of what makes it so special. At 125 years strong, the Logan County Libraries aren’t slowing down. With a continued focus on innovation, accessibility, and community connection, the future looks just as bright as its storied past. Their advice for anyone starting something new? “Understand the people you serve, build trust, and grow through relationships.” It’s a philosophy that has clearly stood the test of time. From ice cream socials to internet hotspots, the Logan County Libraries have spent 125 years bringing knowledge, connection, and opportunity to the community. That’s something worth celebrating – not just this month, but every day. Please join us in congratulating the Logan County Libraries on being the Logan County Chamber of Commerce May 2026 Business of the Month!
