August Business of the Month: Sloan Insurance Center

​For nearly a century, Sloan Insurance Center has been helping individuals, families, farms, and businesses across Logan County protect what matters most. Founded in 1928, Sloan Insurance Center is celebrating 98 years in business and remains deeply rooted in the communities it has proudly served for generations.

Sloan Insurance Center began when Dick and Winnie Sloan established a local independent

insurance agency with a simple vision: provide customized insurance products at affordable rates by shopping multiple options through quality insurance companies while supporting and protecting the local community.

Nearly 100 years later, that mission continues to guide the agency.

Today, Sloan Insurance Center is a division of Ohio Insurance & Financial Services, a larger agency group with 13 offices and more than 40 licensed insurance professionals throughout Ohio. The Sloan team includes a remarkable depth of experience, with several team members having spent decades serving local clients.

​That commitment to local service is reflected in Sloan Insurance Center’s experienced team. Many of their insurance professionals have spent decades building relationships with clients and families throughout Logan County and the surrounding communities. Their combined knowledge, experience, and genuine care for the people they serve have helped make Sloan Insurance Center a trusted local resource for generations. It’s that personal connection and dedication to their clients that continues to set the agency apart today.

For Sloan Insurance Center, Logan County isn't simply where they do business — it's home.

The agency has been located at its current Bellefontaine location at 1413 S. Main Street since 1974, while the Russells Point location at 207 E. Main Street has served the community since 1986.

"Bellefontaine, Indian Lake, and Logan County have always been home for our group," the Sloan team shared. "Between our ownership and staff over the years, we've always been local people living, working, and worshiping within the local community."

That local perspective is also central to the agency's independent business model. Rather than representing just one insurance company, Sloan Insurance Center represents its clients. The team takes time to understand each customer's individual needs, then shops multiple quality insurance companies to find customized coverage that fits both their needs and budget.

The agency offers Auto, Home, Farm, Investment Property, Business, Life, and Medicare insurance products.

Their philosophy is straightforward: "Take care of our clients and they will take care of us!"

While insurance is about preparing for the unexpected, Sloan Insurance Center knows that sometimes the unexpected can be devastating.

Following the March 2024 tornado that severely impacted the Indian Lake community, the Sloan team was proud to be there for their clients when they needed help the most.

"We were proud to be there when our clients needed us most to help put their lives back together through insurance coverage," the team shared.

The gratitude they received from clients — through office visits, phone calls, emails, and even gifts — was especially meaningful to the team and reinforced why local, personal service matters.

Sloan Insurance Center also gives back year-round as a proud annual supporter of the Logan County Fair and livestock sales. The agency supports numerous local charities, schools, and organizations, including local Kiwanis and Rotary chapters and the Logan County Sheriff's Office through various sponsorships.

​Sloan Insurance Center's long history has been accompanied by continued recognition from its insurance partners. The agency has been a Winner's Circle Award recipient with Wayne Insurance Group from 2018 to present, holds Senior Partner Plus status with Grange Insurance Company, and was named Agency of the Year by 1859 Mutual Insurance Company in 2026.

The agency also offers a unique convenience for local customers: Sloan Insurance Center is the

only local insurance agency with a drive-thru service window at its Bellefontaine office.

In 2016, Sloan Insurance Center merged with another local agency, NU-Insurance & Associates, and in 2023, the agency expanded further with the purchase of Hollanshead-Kinsey Agency in Russells Point.

The agency's parent organization, Ohio Insurance & Financial Services, is also celebrating a major milestone in 2026 — 50 years in business. The organization will celebrate with a public event on September 17 from 1–4 p.m. at Nelson Insurance in Kenton.

As Sloan Insurance Center looks toward the future, the team continues to believe that the fundamentals of a successful local business haven't changed.
