Developing and maintaining a safe workplace is no easy task. That is why local companies and the community make a combined effort to develop and maintain a safe workplace. They accomplish this by becoming involved in the Logan County Area Safety Council. The program is co-sponsored by the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation, a Division of Safety and Hygiene.
The group meets the third Thursday from 7:30 to 8 :30 a.m. in the Tech Center at the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center.
The safety council identifies potential and existing problems and has speakers inform them about new techniques, products and services that are available.
Twice a year, company representatives fill out a Semi-Annual report that pertains to work-related injuries/illnesses at their businesses. Companies with the best safety records are honored at an annual awards event. By reducing the frequency or severity of injuries and illnesses receive a 2 percent performance bonus or a 2 percent refund of their annual premium.
